founding Principal & Ceo

Schuyler Foerster

Schuyler Foerster is the founding principal, bringing together a wealth of experience in government, academe, and non-profit management.

  • A graduate of the USAF Academy, he holds a doctorate (DPhil) from Oxford University in politics and strategic studies, as well as masters’ degrees in international relations and public administration, respectively, from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, and The American University; he also served as a national security fellow at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
     
  • A retired U.S. Air Force colonel, he served 26 years as a senior advisor in security and arms control policy, on the USAF Academy faculty, and as an intelligence officer. 
     
  • He has taught at the graduate and undergraduate levels for over 24 years.  From 2010-2016, he served again on the USAF Academy faculty as the Brent Scowcroft Professor of National Security Studies and is a visiting lecturer at Colorado College and at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.  He will spend Spring 2017 in Brno, Czech Republic, as the Fulbright Commission’s Distinguished Chair in Social Studies at Masaryk University.
     
  • In civilian life, he has invested almost 20 years in civic education on global issues through the national World Affairs Councils of America, serving on its national board for over 12 years, as the President & CEO of the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh for over 12 years, and as the volunteer president for the Colorado Springs World Affairs Council for 6 years.
     
  •  Having served 14 years on the New York regional selection committee for the Marshall Scholarship and 2 years in support of the Schwarzman Scholarship, he continues to advise colleges and universities and mentors their best students.
     
  • He has published widely and regularly addresses academic, professional, and civic audiences on international politics and security issues and has received numerous military and civic awards, including an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from La Roche College in Pittsburgh.
